Art has a way of changing how we see the world. In Light and Shadow, Italian-born artist Marco Bendin explores the relationship between perception and reality, inviting viewers to look more closely at the familiar and discover something unexpected.
Now exhibiting at Artful Framer Studios in Chicago, Light and Shadow showcases Bendin’s thoughtful approach to composition, contrast, and perspective. The exhibition moves between realism and abstraction, creating artwork that encourages viewers to pause, look again, and consider what they are really seeing.
Exploring Light, Shadow, and Perspective
Light and shadow do more than define the shapes around us. They influence how we interpret space, recognize objects, and understand what is in front of us. In Light and Shadow, Bendin uses these elements to explore the subtle differences between appearance and reality.
His carefully considered compositions draw attention to details that might otherwise go unnoticed. Unexpected perspectives and shifts between realistic representation and abstraction give the work a sense of discovery. What may initially appear familiar can reveal something entirely different when viewed from another angle.
Bendin’s work reminds us that seeing is not always as straightforward as it seems. Our perception is shaped by light, context, and the assumptions we bring to what we observe.
Meet Chicago-Area Artist Marco Bendin
Born and raised in Italy, Marco Bendin brings a distinctive perspective to his artistic practice. With a background in engineering, he approaches painting with an appreciation for structure, precision, and composition.
Bendin began painting with oils in 2018 after moving to the Chicago area. He continued developing his skills through study at the Evanston Art Center and has become part of the local art community, including involvement with the Chicago Alliance of Visual Artists and the Evanston Art Center. His work has been exhibited throughout the Chicagoland area.
The combination of technical thinking and artistic exploration is an interesting part of Bendin’s work. His compositions demonstrate careful attention to how forms interact, while his exploration of light, shadow, and abstraction leaves room for interpretation.
Experience Original Art in Person
One of the best ways to experience an art exhibition is to see the work in person. Photographs can offer a glimpse of a painting, but they cannot fully capture the way light, tonal contrast, and carefully balanced compositions interact when viewed up close.
Light and Shadow offers visitors an opportunity to spend time with Bendin’s work, explore its details, and experience the shifting relationship between realism and abstraction firsthand.
At Artful Framer Studios, we believe art should be accessible, engaging, and part of everyday life. Our space brings together custom framing and a community art gallery featuring local artists and makers. We are proud to provide a place where Chicago-area artists can share their work and visitors can discover original art for their homes and collections.
Whether you are an established art collector or simply enjoy discovering new artists, visiting a local gallery is a wonderful way to connect with the creative community around you.
